  • Herbal Medicines vs. Big Pharma

Who thinks that herbal medicines are good for you as compared to pharmaceutical drugs? And if you take herbal medicines, what type and do you think they help? I am just interested in sharing ideas and hearing what people think.

Don't think they're better. They might work in some cases and be used as supplements in others, but a medicine without side effects is a medicine without effects, and you don't necessarily know those for herbal medicines (supposing they even have effects, which is not always the case). Besides, nature hasn't tailored those 'medicines' with us in mind; from that perspective I'd trust them less than those artificially tailored for humans. In any case, pharmaceutical drugs are probably more specific, varied, and certainly more tested.

The industry has some issues of course, but it's hard to see herbal medicine as an alternative.

I got off blood pressure meds by dropping a few pounds, now I don't take any medication, maintaining a 120/80 bp and I prefer it this way. Doctors prescribe meds even if its not needed, my blood pressure was borderline high when I was prescribed. First one I tried made me cough and the one I just came off made me constipated.

But don't you think we have become so accustomed to modern medicines because we are encouraged to only rely on them. No doubt modern medicine works but the side effects are quite severe in some cases. It's surprising that we gladly accept side effects as a consequence of being treated which is slightly worrying. All prescription medicines come with a leaflet stating all sorts of side effects and we are still happy to take them.

And there is also the issue that no-one would have exclusive rights to plant based medicines hence trying to patent them would be difficult. The commercialisation of modern medicines means there is a whole lot more scientific research devoted to them when compared to herbal medicines.

Glad to hear you are feeling much better And this is the point which have just mentioned above in regard to the profit motive behind modern medicines. Which means we are constantly being prescribed medicines even when all we need to do is to lose some weight. There is no holistic approach to health and the food we eat is also part of the problem. Usually in countries where herbal medicines are common there is also an emphasis on eating healthy food and exercise.

There are downsides to both Pharmaceutical medications and Herbal medications. There are lots of pharmaceutical companies out there that will do anything to make a few bucks, even if it puts their customers in harm's way. However, thanks to modern medicine, the average lifespan of a person has increased exponentially.

There are some herbal medications that do work depending on your disease and sickness, but most of them seem far fetched.

Now for home remedies, there are lots of methods that makes me go WTF. An example of this is Coining. Being Vietnamese, coining is pretty common in the community but I don't know if it actually has any positive values. If I could, I would like to add to your question with the use of home remedies and if it's helpful or harmful.

Mh, as if pharmaceutical drugs wouldn't often be from the nature. Also something synthetic like Aspirin is just a more advanced and efficient product than the willow bark that some ancient peoples ate for the same reason. I don't see why I would be better off with that bark.

Yes, but as I said, a medicine with no side effects is a medicine with no effects... The fact that herbal medicines don't come with a leaflet detailing the side effects tells us that either they don't have side effects (and so no effects either) or they are not known. Do you prefer placebo or unknown side effects to known side effects?

On the other hand if you can patent the medicine, you can make money out of it, so there is an incentive to research it. Unfortunately public science is not so well funded as to be able to take over that job. This is an issue of course, because research is costly, so drug companies are likely to exaggerate the effectiveness of their drugs to make more money out of them (and they do from what I understand). Herbal medicine is not so different in this respect though, because as there is little research the exact effects are not known, so people typically make all kinds of claims about them.

Neo-herbal therapy is the best. Organic meals are even considered as herbal medicines. Air and natural hard water are regarded so. The Idea that herbal medicine has no side effects implies that people are less knowledgeable of its application.

Truth is, herbal medicines have the worst yield of side effects ever when inaccurately prescribed! And when correctly applied, heals rapidly. Synthetic drugs are not naturally better, they kind of work by imposing risk and improving health briefly at two separate conditions where a lacking quality is not totally regained.

Many people believe that nature provides what we need to heal, so we should try herbal medicines at first. But only when it doesn't help, then sometimes it is wise to take prescription drugs. But time is not always playing for you. That's why when it comes to health issues, I am both hands for good quality Canada drugs . The medicines that are sold there have been tested over and over and proven to be effective in curing illnesses

herbal medicine rarely works. If you believe that herbal medicine is better than modern medicine, I have some natural organic pure grass to sell you which can cure cancer and AIDS and reverse the aging process.
