  • Finding a good church

I was wondering if any Christians here have trouble finding a good church to attend? And what are you looking for in a church? There's one that I attended a few times and we have a lot of fun there. It meets in a school auditorium. It has dark lighting and the band plays really good music. There is a big emphasis put on giving to your community and everyone seems so happy. But I feel like something is lacking. There doesn't seem to be any intense bible study there. As I sip my coffee and watch all the assistant pastors in their jeans and t-shirts, no one ever laid hands on anyone for prayer. I love the casual atmosphere there, but I miss the "fire and brimstone" preaching that really moves people. I've resorted to watching some preachers online just to get my "fix". Maybe at 47 I'm too old for what most younger people want. Do any of you go through this.

Also what do you think of online churches?

Seriously - there are online churches ? You know, the Bible does speak of something similar to what you say here. In 2nd Timothy 4: 3-4, it says " For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." It seems to me that there are a lot of people today who feel the need to believe in something, but they stop short of making God and Jesus the real desire of their hearts. For the record, I'm a bit older than you, at 65. Oh, and also for the record, I don't feel as if it's possible to fellowship using social media.

Honestly, the good things I'm looking for in a church - unwasteful conversion of buildings and other property into useful productive elements. However, the conversion of churches into mosques constitutes a retrograde step into usage that is neither useful nor productive.

In any case, the OP has touched on why virtually everyone at a personal level who remains religious, whether it is Christianity, Islam or Hinduism, is such - it's all about socialisation and entertainment. There was never anything "spiritual" in religions or religious dogma to start off with.

Living as minority in my country doesnt make me feel hard to found church to attend. There are a lot of them here. But when moved to another city, i have to find good church tht really suits me. Some things tht I concerned about when finding church are:
        - the church welcoming people with warm heart and sincerely, the people of church are loving and build each other
        - the service itself must be can give me knowledge more about bible and God, not just speaking about what bible says, but also applicable into real life
        - the preacher can deliver the message properly
        - the singer or the worship leader can lead the people well while worship, with focus on God, so they won’t act exaggerated just to get people attention

It’s from me, hope it will help you

Ah ya? About online church, never tried it before, but it’s can be good idea for busy people

Online churches are also good for people living in remote areas, shut-ins as well as for those not interested in joining a congregation. I see such organizations more as expository bible-teaching ministries than as churches in the normal sense. As chrisp1953 said,

I would say it's impossible to fellowship. That's OK, not everyone wants to.
