  • Compassion Fatigue

We were stepping foot outside the bar when you turned your back to me.
The rain began to pick up as we quickened our pace.
Heads down, avoiding bad weather to the best of our abilities.
Eventually you were faster than me.
You quickened your pace as if you longed to escape from me.
I could no longer see you, but I could feel the distance. The difference.
I didn't want to get wet, so I didn't look up right away.
I didn't look up until the very last minute.
And right before we could take cover into shelter, you were gone.
